Dr. Carlos J. Canino

Dr. Carlos J. Canino

Dr. Carlos J. Canino attended the University of Florida from 1994-2000 and obtained a B.S. degree in Animal Science and worked on a M.S. degree in Animal Reproduction. He then obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University (2004) and did his clinical year at Kansas State University. He held many leadership positions while at school including student government (vice president), ethics club, president of the Z.E.W (Zoo, exotics, and wildlife) club, and part of the student contribution to the self-study for AVMA accreditation for Ross University SVM. Dr. Canino worked as a veterinary technician at Knowles Animal Clinics since the age of 18 and now has been practicing with us for the last 6 years.

Dr. Canino is a member of the AVMA, FVMA, SFVMA, and the International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (IVECCS). He is also a Pfizer ELITE peer veterinarian, which shares with other veterinarians in the community the success of certain medications used in veterinary practice.

His interest includes the human-animal bond, behavior, emergency and critical care medicine, and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. De Castilho went to veterinary school at Facultad de Agronomia Y Veterinaria de Esperanza, Argentina. She graduated in 1996. She has been licensed to practice in United States since 2008

Dr. De Castilho is a member of AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and VECCS (Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society) since 2008

Dr. De Castilho has interest in small animal medicine and emergency and critical care.

Dr. Lois Sargent

Dr. Lois Sargent

Lois Sargent attended University of Florida and graduated in 1992. After completing vet school, Dr. Sargent practiced in rural western Pennsylvania for two years in a mixed animal practice before returning to her home in Miami. She studied acupuncture with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, (IVAS) from 1997-1998 and was certified in 1998. In addition, she studied classical homeopathy with Dr. Richard Pitcairn, DVM from 2000-2001. She also has studied independently the field of homotoxicology, traditional Chinese herbal formulas and is currently working towards a graduate degree in western herbs. She integrates all these modalities with her fundamental allopathic training into the treatment of her patients.

Dr. Lois Sargent is a part-time veterinarian at Knowles Animal Clinics-Central where she works primarily the emergency shifts. She routinely works every Sunday dayshift. She is also the program coordinator of the Miami Dade College Veterinary Technology program, some of whose graduates are employed by Knowles Clinics.

Dr. Sargent is involved with many veterinary organizations. In addition to the AVMA and FVMA, she also participates in the AHVMA (American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association), where she has been a member of the board from 2002-2005. She is a member of the VBMA, (Veterinary Botanical Medical Association), where she held the office of secretary from 2001 - 2003. Other memberships include the AAVA, (American Association of Veterinary Acupuncturists), and IVAS. She is also a current volunteer to the VMAT, (Veterinary Medical Assistance Team) through the USDA. This organization sends disaster relief teams when the need arises. She joined VMAT after attaining her graduate degree in Biosecurity through Purdue University.

Dr. Sargent brings a unique style of treatment to our patients as she practices homeopathy and acupuncture on a variety of patients. In addition to these formal classes, she has studied herbal medicine, incorporating both Eastern & Western formulas, as well as various aspects of nutrition into her treatment plans.
